UNESCO declared Nilgiri Mountain Railway as an extension to the World Heritage Site of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.

46km in length railway line took 54 years to build. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway runs from Ooty via Coonoor.

The famous Hindi song 'Chhaiya Chhaiya' from the film 'Dil Se' was shot on the rooftop of Nilgiri Mountain Railway.
